David Dettmann
David Dettmann completed his three-year Diploma in Photography in South Africa before moving to the United Kingdom where he found his niche in the film industry shooting for clients such as Warner Bros, Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox and Universal. After ten successful years in the UK, David moved back to South Africa, with his family, to pursue a more commercial direction in his photography. David still regularly travels to shoot for clients worldwide.
Any advice for visitors to Victoria Falls River Lodge to enable them to return home with memorable pictures from their Photographic Safari?
The key to wildlife photography is patience (and a lot of luck). Speak to your game ranger before the time and try to work out the best way to create the most opportunities to get a good shot.
Sunrise is the best time with the animals being their most active. Ask your ranger to try and position the vehicle with the sun behind you. When using a long lens, try to find something in the vehicle to support the lens on – to avoid any camera shake and blur.
